You're on a city trip through the idyllic port city of Pula, but also want to experience the beautiful nature of Croatia? Then you should definitely visit the Brijuni National Park and let yourself be impressed by the untouched landscapes.
The Brijuni National Park consists of an impressive group of islands and invites you to swim and snorkel in the Adriatic's crystal-clear waters. Let yourself be enchanted by nature and discover Croatia's rich culture. The Brijuni National Park offers a wide range of action-packed activities while also providing a peaceful idyll: lush landscapes, untouched beaches, diverse wildlife, and historical relics. A visit that will be unforgettable for both young and old.
Especially families will enjoy the tours through Brijuni National Park. Discover the native flora and fauna, visit the archaeological sites, venture into the adventurous safari park, or explore the underwater world.
Are you interested in Croatia’s history and want to admire ruins from the past alongside the park’s natural beauty? Then head to the cultural landmarks, explore archaeological sites from the Roman era, or visit the villas of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. You can also explore the Tito Museum, located in the summer residence of former Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito.
Not only have the historical buildings survived through time—so has nature. Take a walk through ancient olive groves, with trees over 1,600 years old. Hike through soothing pine forests and keep an eye out for deer or unique bird species. Also worth seeing are the beautiful plants in the botanical garden and the safari park featuring zebras, llamas, and other exotic animals.
The safari park also includes an ethnographic area that showcases farms typical of the Istrian peninsula, where you can encounter native animals like Istrian sheep (Istarska Pramenka), donkeys, and goats. But it’s not only the safari park that will delight children—the park is also home to countless dinosaur footprints. Get closer than ever to these prehistoric giants and follow their tracks.
You can explore this beautiful park not only on foot but also by bicycle. On the scenic routes, you'll have the chance to discover ruins, observe wildlife, and reach breathtaking viewpoints. Don’t have a bike? No problem—you can easily rent one on Veliki Brijun. Ride along the 13.3 km bike trail and plan about three hours for the full route including stops. Be sure to visit Saluga Bay, which offers a refreshing swimming spot and plenty of fun along your route.
If you want to go beyond the islands and explore the underwater world, pack your snorkeling gear and dive into the Adriatic’s crystal-clear waters. A particularly great spot for snorkeling is Verige Bay. Discover various species of fish and shellfish and—highlight of the tour—the remains of a Roman villa now submerged due to sea level rise. Looking for even more excitement? Then grab a kayak or paddleboard and venture out to sea.
The best time to visit Brijuni National Park is between May and September. If you want to explore the underwater world in more depth, summer is ideal. However, be aware that it can be more crowded during school holidays. If you prefer mild weather and primarily want to enjoy the park’s nature on land, May, June, and September are also excellent choices. In general, visiting the national park is worthwhile all year round!
